DIY: embroidery portrait keychain

 Hi y'all.

I had such a weird dream yesterday. I was in a witch school and somehow I was very very very mean, I kicked another mean witch down the stairs and as  she was falling, I grabbed her hand and said "help me, I do not know why I'm like that" and then I let go and she fell. She got up to fight with me so I broke her cello bow and stabbed her with it. She didn't die!! So I locked her up in her cello case and she died. I woke up and I was like...0.0 What was that all about!?!

And then I went back to sleep and I had another dream.

I kidnapped a man and he kept shouting "WHERES MY WIFEY? WHERES MY WIFEY?"
and I said "I don't know where your wifey is, but I have wifi here...the signal is quite strong" and I woke up thinking....damn son....thats actually quite funny.

but anyway!!

Earlier this week, I received a lovely gift from a Ewoodstory (instagram: ewoodstory), a creative craft store in Oregon that is a collaboration between a woodworker and a designer. Thank you Shelby~ So heres what I did with this Mini Masterpiece Pendant frame!

LETS DIY!!

What you'll need:
  1. ewoodstory frame. (http://www.etsy.com/shop/ewoodstory)
  2. embroidery hoop (4" diameter)
  3. cotton canvas
  4. uhu glue
  5. acrylic paint
  6. soft felt
  7. jump rings + large claw clasp
  8. fur ball

LETS GO~~~

1) I marked out the surface area from the frame and then worked my design inside.
2) To match the colours of my threads, I painted the wood surface light pink. While waiting for this to dry, cut out your embroidery piece leaving about 0.5 cm border around your work. This is so that we have space to sew it onto the frame.
3) Use back stitch to attach your embroidery piece onto the wooden frame. Make sure its tight, so sew closely to the edges so that it "stretches" your piece on the frame.
4) To hide the threads, cut a small piece of felt and glue it in place at the back of the piece.
5) attach jump rings to giant claw clasp to large fur ball and attach mini embroidered portrait onto jump ring.
6) add fuchsia ribbon for heightened kawaii effect.

AND WE'RE DONE! Happy crafting!! :)

Please leave a comment if you have any questions at all.

DIY: photo /inspiration/memory board

Hi y'all. Hows the weekends. Mine was so hectic.
The whole house is in a mess, my room is in a mess, everything is in a mess. My family is in a mess. Everybody is in a mess. omgggg.
So anyway, because my room is freshly painted, I can't really stick stuff on my wall anymore because the paint will peeeeeel. T_T

So I tried this instead!

What you'll need:

Colored twine to match your wall (SGD$7.99 from TYPO)
Small mini pegs (SGD$6 from TYPO)
Nails (ask for nails for concrete wall)
Hammer

NAIL AWAY. I hit my thumb twice, but its okay, I have a strong thumb. It survived.
Keep nailing until you're happy and then start using the twine to form a geometric web like that.
And then just start clipping stuff on!

Can even hang my necklaces and accessories. HAPPY.
At least one part of my room is organised...SORT OF.

Ok! Happy organising! :)

Diy embroidered canvas shoes

New year new shoes right?! Nah, that doesn't work, I am totally a shoe person, it's more like new month new shoes. But that being said, I can also hear my mom yelling "THERE IS NO MORE SPACE IN THE CUPBOARD, PLEASE! NO MORE SHOES!!"

Sorry, I digress.

So anyway here's what you need:
1) cotton canvas shoes
2) pencil
3) tapestry needle (size 22?)
4) embroidery thread
5) scissors/ cutter

To elaborate on point 1) cotton canvas shoes: I've tried embroidering on different thickness, Supergas (scroll down for picture) are slightly thicker so embroidering more detailed stuff will be a little bit more difficult. But it can be done. I would recommend cheaper shoes like those selling at Rubi. Currently they're having this promotion 2 pairs for SGD$30. Their shoes are totally basic, perfect for crafting, canvas is also softer... which means that it would be easy to penetrate through.

Just FYI: whilst working on this, I pricked myself many many times. So just be careful! Also FYI FYI, I drew a smiley face and some flowers on paper with my finger blood... Which reminds me of when I was in primary school I used to forget to bring my pencil/ pen and my teacher would look at me and say "how are u going to write?! Using blood?!"

Using blood from your fingertip to write is technically impossible, unless you are looking for a fontsize of about 30. Again, I digress.

Here are some pics.

Yay it's done! Personalised embroidered sneakers from Rubi.

Embroidered Superga sneakers.

It's very easy! Try it! :) Embroidering on the rubi shoes are easier as the canvas is thinner, I took about 6 hours for each side... So total time taken for a pair of embroidered customised shoes would be about 12 hours.

For the superga sneakers, the canvas was too thick for the needle to penetrate consistently, so I used a punch needle... But even so it bent the tip of my punch needle ;( I will do another post on punch needle embroidery soon! :)

The Best Of You

HI GAIZ.

hows it going. I've had about the most craziest and the most exciting week all in one. One of the highlights of my week so far would definitely have to be the launch and opening of The Best Of You exhibition at Marina Square.

Creeping around my work to see who's looking. hehehehe.
So honoured to be able to be in the same frame as Mr and Mrs Su and Tze Horng. \^_^/
Hi everyone meet Riri San, she's so super cute I want to put her in my pocket. She doodled some flowers and trees for her mother because she is the best of her.
and heres a picture of a dad, picking up embroidery for his daughter and meticulously embroidering a picture of a princess his daughter drew.
tadahhhhh. Here are some other works from the workshop!

Thanks all for coming down and being a part of this and sharing what the best of you is. I will be conducting two more days of workshops at Marina Square over the weekend. Its free for public, but you got to register in advance at The-best-of-you.com. COME SAY HI.

aaaaaand I'm out.
ciao.

LETS MAKE: Denim Bow French Barrette

These few days I've been thinking of getting a hair clip or a hair accessory that doesn't stand out too much and is versatile...like I can wear it with almost anything and it still goes kinda thing. So I thought since we're on the topic of Upcycling denim, why not make use of the left over denim scraps I have. And denim IS VERSATILE TOO RIGHT?  Im also very lazy, so on lazy days I like to be dressed in black because I don't really have to think much about whether this goes with this, yes no, yikes, ew. Black goes with black right? And a touch of denim would lighten and make the whole outfit look less...sombre...melancholic...ishhhhh.

yeahhhhhh. ok so...

LETS MAKE!!
\^_^/*

-

Heres whats you need!
  • Thick craft felt
  • French Barrette Clip (comes in different sizes)
  • UHU glue. (sorry mine looks so sunken, like the cheeks of an old lady)
  • Scrap denim fabric
  • Needle + thread

1) Cut a piece of rectangle craft felt for the base to be glued onto the french barrette clip.
2) Cut a piece of denim adding 1cm around all edges.
3) Fold them around the felt piece.
4) Glue them down. This is the base of the clip. Lets make the bow now!
5) Cut another rectangular strip of denim fabric (doesn't need to be perfectly rectangular), and fold them up as shown above.
6) Handstitch the two ends together as shown.
7) Flip the sewn rectangle outwards and then press down in the middle from top the bottom to get bow shape.
8) Cut a thin strip of denim, this will be wrapped around the middle section to create the bow. (use a pin to hold them down)
9) Wrap tightly twice around the bow as shown.
10) Cut excess and then glue down.
11) Now we hazz the main bow, and the base.
12) Glue them together, press flat and wait for it to dry.

In the meantime while waiting for it to dry, I shall briefly mention about Maze Runner. It is an amazing show, keeps you on your toes all the time, I love it. Just didn't quite like the ending because I was like huh? huh ? whats this? whats that? Who Dat? wHo dAt? *i-g-g-y* ok. lets continue...

13) Now lets attach the french barrette onto the bow piece. Glue together, forever.
14) For extra security, sew the two ends down as shown above.

15) Press and hold down and wait for glue to dry again.

So while waiting for the glue to dry, I shall briefly talk about UHU glue. Guys, UHU glue is amazing. I love the smell of it, and also fact that it glues almost anything and everything together. Like, I have 100% CONFIDENCE in it. Another purpose for UHU glue is for violin practice. Sometimes after I practice for hours my fingers hurt really badly and they become really sore. So I apply uhu glue on the tip of my fingers till the glue hardens and then I apply another layer etc etc...so its like second skin, and then I continue practicing and it WORKS ALL THE FRIKIN TIME.

ok anyway.

Tahdah, denim french barrette complete.
Happy crafting~
Oh and just some additional ideas: you can try painting on your denim with acrylic before making them into a bow. ok bye.
