The rest of Tokyo~

Tokyo is beautiful. It's so so so beautiful and colorful and amazing. I'm typing this from London, and there's a stark contrast because the weather is so gloomy here~~~~ I'll post up some photos soon! But here's what went down in Tokyo a few days ago~

Wandered to some neighbourhood point. so many fat cats did I mention?!
Please keep your hands off, OK?!
Yuki San selling my prints to super cool bunch of people. The whole event has like so many cool people , like a fashion magazine come to life.
And all the men wears suits and ties with sneakers. SO FREAKIN COOL.
After a long day, okutsukare sama deshita~~~
Went to meet kelly and friends~ for some burger goodness at Shimokitazawa, it's so crazy to get there I got lost. I had no wifi so basically I was wandering around relying on my super basic Japanese to ask people for directions. So anyway, I asked the first guy I saw, and turned out he was mute, so he read my lips and pointed to this train and I just hopped on.
So many stops later~~~~ I still don't hear this word "shimokitazawA" so I felt pretty screwed. I got off and it was some deserted station, but thank goodness I saw a cool guy and he spoke very little English like how I spoke very little jPanese and we became Facebook friends and he's cute thanks. But he's so very kind he brought me to the station and made sure I met my friends before he left. Arigatou~~~

So here I am! With burgers and friends!
Josiah recommended this super large coke. It's HUGE!!!!
DRINK UP~~~
indie crepe store. So freakin cool this place. It's decorated with Disney toys and decor.
Here's the store owner making crepes in her mini studio. Kawaii~~~~

Minna San~ thank you for coming out to play! I had so much fun thank you~~~~ :D
Took a train cRrying so many ding dongs from the hotel to the airport. Achievement unlocked srsly.
Thank you UNTITLED, for such an amazing experience and so much fun~~~ stay tuned for the collaboration collection with UNTITLED. Samples are coming in soon! And they will be sold in Japan stores next year in feb. I think. Hahahaha.

End Cycle.

Theres a power to sadness that is so addictive because it fuels a lot of thought and creativity. Sadness leads to inspiration and motivation. But what do you do when you're not sad? You create sadness. Thats why it is so powerful and addictive. Because its pure sadness. It is not from anyone, it is sadness created from Yourself. Imagine sadness so pure, intense & insane. Controlled sadness. Like a cigarette, so addictive, so productive but terrible in the long run.

Controlled sadness
it gets work done.

2am

Melancholy, be gone.
Just 3 words.
Like the words
That you said.
Good-bye, farewell.
Yes, go away.
You terrible liar,
and horrible cheat.
I'll miss you.
no no no
That's a lie.
Just 3 words.
Find your courage.
Win me back.
Take me away.
Or let be.
i am her.
stay don't go.
here with me.
It's 2 am.
Melancholy, be gone.

now, please leave.
or be mine.

Sunday's Satisfaction

Hi hi. Its been such a busy weeeeeeek~~ I feel like I'm going through school submission exam period again. I've been sleeping for 3-5 hours everyday. *in pain face* But nonetheless, I'm really thankful and super inspired during this period. I think life as a creative should be like that, constantly working and thinking of new ideas and getting inspired by life and things around.  For me, once I have an idea, I become terribly obsessed about it. Its ALL I think about. Its quite unhealthy really because I wont stop until I actually execute it.

So put two people like that together, and we get re-fuel-ed passion and energy. I LOVE being in this kinda situations, like positive/creative energy and ideas just keep bouncing back and forth. Its really amazing.

<SAD GIRLS CLUB>
So anyway, my super amazingly talented friend,  Lenne & I were having dinner one day and suddenly this idea blossomed. Like...why not bring my current embroidered Sad Girls Club series to life? Like, what the embroidered sad girl would look like in real life. And I was like.... omg thats so freakin cool, we need to do it!!! ( even though we had crazily packed schedules!! T_T) So we did! We managed to source and plan everything in about a week or two, which is SO crazy. But anyway, here are some BTS shots of the making of the props.

and here ladies and gentlemen, you can see my tummy rolling out. hehehehe.

OH HAI~~

Aaaaand after so many hours of Painting and Pasting and Planning (3Ps!!), its time for dinnerzz.
My first time at Miam Miam, and I so freakin love this place! Everything is so nice~~ Its at Bugis junction btw. Take me here and I will love you forever~
Adin's Mac & Cheese / Tee's Cabonara.
Lenne's Soufle rice thing.
This is super amazing, I have no idea how they made the egg rise like that. Its like, cookery magic to me.

Btw, does anyone watch Master Chef Junior? IT TOTALLY BLEW MY MIND AWAY!! I caught it on the tele the other day, and Im like "are you freakin shitting me?" This show is so freakin amazing and inspiring!! 10 year olds cooking seriously AMAZING dishes that will blow your mind away. This 10 year old girl made her own freakin taco sauce FROM SCRATCH. She also made her own taco FROM SCRATCH. Like WHAAAAAATTTTT. This other boy made his own pasta, from scratch. HOW!?

I can't even. Its so inspiring, makes me want to learn how to make sth else other than mashed potatoes. Random fact: My favourite food is anything potato. I love potatoes. Potato is my life.
I shall Potate forever.

Sad Girls Club

*DRUMROLL*

preeeesenting to you, SAD GIRLS CLUB in TOKYO.
My second exhibition overseas. I'm so excited can you feel my excitement.
Here are some photos from behind the scenes during the set up at 3am in the morning.
If you are within the vicinity, you can catch this at Daikanyama T-site

I personally feel like they're all my friends or children. So this is like a graduation/ class photo you know, which is a very gratifying feeling for me. All of them were inspired by moments in my life or a sad person I met or a friend I know. So its like, I want to capture their/my sadness forever on fabric, stitch by stitch every inch of sadness and melancholy is trapped and embedded onto fabric. When I look at a piece, I remember all the negativity, its overwhelming but the colours and flowers usually juxtapose and masks it. Just like all of us, just like me.

And the most exciting thing about Sad Girls Club, is that it will keep growing. Heres my artist statement:

At this moment, I want to say a huge thank you to my Japanese agents and partners who stayed up all night to work on the layout of the exhibition. Thank you for having faith and representing my works. These photos were taken at like 3am ish okay. But I'm seriously thankful. This is so much.

Ellie

embroidery process
-

This is Ellie. She's part of the Sad Girls Club series that I will be exhibiting in Japan soon in October.
I can't wait for that. Sadly I would not be going over to Japan because of other work commitments back home. :(
I think of E of the time. By embroidering her, her memories and thoughts are embedded in the weaves of the fabric. Stitch by stitch, forever alive, forever here.

-

Ellie's sad. Ellie's angry. Ellie leaves home.
Ellie never comes back. Ellie cries. Ellie cries. Ellie cries.
Ellie make it stop. Ellie stop. Ellie goes.
Ellie come back. Ellie knows. Ellie's hard to take care of.
Ellie says ok I'll try. Ellie fails. Ellie falls. Ellie cries.
Ellie's crushed. Ellie's thinking bad. Ellie's not looking. Ellie crosses.
Ellie's safe. Ellie cries. Ellie cries. Ellie cries.
